trade in your darkness for the light

Though the mornings are still chilly with frost, spring is just around the corner. Evren and Han have been here in the forest for some months now, and watching the land slowly morph from dull browns and greys to bright blues and greens has been a boon to Evren's mood. Making the decision to leave her homeland behind for the second time - and its subsequent effect on Han, who had not quite been the same since - has been weighing heavily on her mind, but when birds are singing and naked branches burst with new growth, everything seems a little brighter.

Having had little success in convincing Han to be sociable today, Evren leaves her son to his seclusion and decides to seek out Persephone. She has tried to give the mare some space recently, for she knows all too well of the duties that come with holding a territory, and guilt still eats away at her for ever having dragged Persephone away from the forest at all, no matter how willing to help Persephone had been at the time. Indeed, there had been several visitors to the forest since they had returned, which has only served to remind Evren that the forest is a prime piece of real estate. No doubt it is more work to manage than the desert ever was for her.

But as Evren strolls through the trees, a strong, bellowing cry echoes from a short distance away. It seems that today is not her day after all. Curiosity pulls Evren onward, however. Without anything to do, the former lead mare within her is restless. If she cannot get Persephone alone today, the least she can do is check out the situation in case Sephy needs backup.

She comes across them soon enough, and is surprised to find Persephone standing face-to-face with not one, but two horses: a young roan stallion, and a heavily pregnant mare. Evren peers at them through the trees, pleased to see that their body language seems amicable, when something about the stallion strikes her as familiar. She watches him for a good, long moment, suspicion tightening her belly. He is no longer a gangly colt - he is tall and handsome, his body rounded with muscle - but it is so like him that it cannot be anyone else.

Excitement pushes Evren out of hiding, and she hurries to Persephone's side to stare at the stallion with bright eyes and an open mouth. "Tarek, is that really you?"
