Blue had his head down, plucking grass with concentration as if it were a complicated task that required his undivided attention. It really wasn’t, but he had come from a land where grass this lush was rare and hard to find. Plus it was helping his headache disappear, and he wanted to get it into his stomach as fast as possible. So devoted to the grass was he that he hardly noticed the golden mare dance up to him until she was very close, and then he startled to attention, lifting his massive black head very quickly as she spoke to him.
"Oh, hello," he said, his voice quiet, almost shy. She was very pretty, and he could hardly meet her blue eyes for more than a second before looking abashedly away again. He had never seen a mare so small. Maybe when he was a foal, but back then everyone seemed very tall so it was hard to tell. His mother had begun to raise him alone before he reached his adult height, and she was nearly as tall as Blue. He felt like a giant looking down at the little golden mare.
She introduced herself as Galexia de Angel, and he smiled, thinking the name was quite pretty. "Galexia de Angel," he repeated, enjoying the words. "My name is Kaiju Blue. You can call me Blue, if you’d like.” He offered a polite bow of his head, wanting to exchange breaths with Galexia but too shy to offer. When she said he smelled unfamiliar, he gave a nervous chuckle. ”Yes, I’m new," he confirmed, a little embarrassed that she had known right away. "I take it you live here? It’s very pretty." Would only make sense a pretty girl like you would live in a pretty place like this, he thought, but did not say it out loud.
