turn men into beasts [claim]

The Lagoon had grown quiet. So quiet, in fact, that the stallion often felt suffocated by it. Rade, Kvothe, Kirel, along with the other lagoon brothers, all seemingly gone. It would not surprise the General if Rade was dead. The stallion certainly had the age and ailments to have not lasted much longer. But the rest? The pale giant couldn’t imagine what had chased them off. At least he did cross Rehoboam and Frey’s scent from time to time, meaning the two wasn’t completely gone.

“Dad!” the young male voice cut through Tyr’s thoughts, making the stallion flinch before looking over. His green and blue eyes watching as Vadim came trotting over proudly, the muck of the Lagoon clinging to his fuzzy legs and squelching around his hoofs. The boy didn’t seem to noticing. His tail held aloft and a crooked smile on his lips, as if he were already proud of himself over something. “Come look.” Vadim insisted, reaching out to bump his sire’s shoulder before spinning around and heading back the same way he had come. With a grunted sigh, the stallion trudged after his colt. What was it now?

When Tyr spotted Vadim stopped just at the tree line ahead, Tyr perked his ears, realizing his son was looking out of the Lagoon and into the Commons. As he came to stand beside the sturdy made colt, he peered out as well, spying the mare who clearly didn’t know the danger she was in. The Commons in the middle of Fall? Glancing around, Tyr expected to see a Peak mare, but he neither scented or saw anyone. How…. Odd. Wasn’t Rehoboam supposed to be keeping an eye on the Commons?

“I’m going to talk to her.” Vadim announced. “Don’t….” But before Tyr could even finish, Vadim had puffed up his chest and strutted out into the open. The stallion just rolled his eyes before trailing after his son. Well…. This should be…. Interesting.

As Vadim approached the mare, he offered her a friendly smile, his ears pushed forward among his growing fuzzy forelock and mane. “Hi! You must be new here. Did you know you walk in dangerous lands?” he announced, his ominous as if he were trying to share a scary story with her. Tyr grunted out his embarrassment, reaching over to nip at the colt’s hip before he looked to the mare, hoping she understood the difficult ways of children. “What he meant to say, was his name is Vadim. I am Tyr, General of the Lagoon. We would like to escort you to a safer place to be during the fall season.” the stallion said. Though every instinct wanted him to rush forward, to drive her with ears pinned back into the Lagoon. The stallion had made a promise, and he did his best to hold to it. Plus, Vadim wasn’t exactly helping him to look menacing. “Yea! The Falls are beautiful, and right next to the Peak!” Vadim piped in.
