a tattered gown and a kingdom of ash

Cause it's the story of a Queen
Whose castle has fallen to the sea
-

Stum didn’t know why she picked Kestral to be the father of her baby, but something about him was comforting. It might be the fact that she easily falls for anyone who gives her attention or maybe fate had stepped in. Seeing how much his home reminds her of her birthplace, fate had to have some kind of role here. She keeps close to her new spotted companion as she compliments his choice of residency. Of course, she did not know the rules of the land here or that he actually was a trinket to those that did live here. It would be an odd concept in her mind.

As Kestral agrees to the beauty of the mountains her head bobs drastically. Then he says something strange. He says he has no more claim to her than the ocean can possess the wind. Her head tilts to the side in a questioning manner. The look on her face shows her obvious confusion. ”You say strange things.” She giggles and lips at his cheek playfully. ”I stay for you. I have become yours with the seed in my belly.” A smile spreads over her white lips.

may be the best gentlemen she has ever encountered which was lucky for her. Stum’s culture knew tradition with the male figurehead doing as he pleased with his mares. Other stallions constantly taking from others. Plus, she was born a mare of a different sort. Something in her brain caused her to need someone else’s care. It didn’t matter who they were or what they were like, she needed them.

---

Winter passes her by like it was nothing. She sticks close to Kestral, never leaving his side no matter how annoyed he might get. She was afraid he might never come back if he left. Even today as pain strikes through her barrel, she does not leave him. Stum screams in agony. She paces, she rubs against Krestral to distract herself. She even nips at him a few times with ears flattened on top of her skull. At the same time, she curses at him in Hungarian to not leave her side. She didn’t know if he would understand, but she might chase him down if he did try to walk away.

She laid down, she sat, but then she always got back up again to pace. This was not her first baby, or the biggest baby she has ever had, but it didn’t feel pretty all the same. It took a few hours, but it was all finally over with the drop of a foal on the spring grass. Stumb quickly turns and begins cleaning the foal and tearing the sack for the newborn to take its first breath. ”Gyönyörű.” She whispers at the bright eyes filly that stare back at her. The filly was white with chestnut spots all over her body. Her spots were more frequent like Krestral’s were, another reminder of who her father was.

Her nose pushes under her daughter’s belly to help her stand. Only when her foal was standing did she step forward to allow her foal easy access to her first meal. The filly’s nose guides her to milk where she suckles nosily as she eats. Stumb’s head turns to Krestral as she nickers for him. ”Apu come. Meet daughter.” She smiles big as she watches his reaction to his new child.
