Re(1): Story ideas on important things

I was in a Kansas City hospital overnight a few years ago, following back surgery. I don’t remember whether Medicare or insurance was paying my bill, but - - that’s not what this post is about.

What this post is about is:

There was an old man on the same floor I was, at the same time. He was in a vegetative state, and was NOT expected to recover. He was on life-sustaining care. I don't remember how long, but nurses had been wheeling this old man’s bed from one room to another for weeks, if not months.

Medicare – you and I and the hospital - were paying to keep this old guy alive. I’m sure you can cite a rare case where a 15-yr-old kid had regained consciousness after days or weeks and survived, but this guy was in his sixties. He was NOT going to recover.

My question is, who can pull the plug on someone like this who is costing you and me and Medicare a fortune and is NOT going to recover? Medicare is already going broke, and there will be many more like this old man as “boomers” reach the end.

I don’t have the answer…
