It turned out, the huge drafty mare hadn't really possessed an affinity for Paradise after all. Less than a week after telling Roux she was welcome to go back to Paradise, the mare abandoned everything and handed it off to someone else entirely. Yet another mare who bore no ties to this storied land.

In truth, Roux had definitely considered leaving at that point. It hadn't taken long after her return to ascertain that none of her family remained here in Paradise (though there were lingering traces of Drogon and Wulfric at the borders), and so there was little to tie her here anymore other than a fond familiarity for the sites she'd visited often as a girl. No lovers. No friends. No desperate need for companionship.

She'd gone to the Crossing in the hopes of finding a stallion that might love her for who she was, and instead, she'd been claimed by a mare who couldn't be bothered to get to know her and then quickly handed off to someone she hadn't even met. Or well, not handed off officially. Roux hadn't been claimed by Snapdragon and owed her no loyalty at all. Not that she'd felt particularly loyal to Siren's Symphony before, but she'd at least been obligated to give her the time of day.

The silver bay mare huffed a soft sigh and glared out at the open expanse of the ocean, still undecided on what action she would take. It felt... uncomfortable to live in her childhood home with a bunch of strangers who did not know that the monkeys would play chase with you if you stole a banana from their horde, or that you could start a parrot war if you put a piece of millet out in the open between two colonies. Roux shook her head and then dropped it to grab another listless mouthful of salty seagrass and then resumed her quiet contemplation of the ocean.
