Should he be ashamed? Yes, probably. Was he? No, not at all.

Raegar trotted jauntily across the Crossing, limping only mildly on his latest injury, a gift from Fell after his... amorous exchange with the pretty Bay mare. He had been unable to rend her from the black stallion's clutches, but rather than making him feel unhappy and frustrated the way his previous conquest had, he felt invigorated. There was a marked difference between fighting for something he wanted, even if he lost, and not being able to fight at all.

So, while he remained empty-hooved with no new mare to escort home, he felt more grounded. Like all was right in the world once more.

The sight of the skeletal pony mare caught his eye as he jogged, though he didn't immediately turn toward her given that his mind was still skimming over the mare whose company he'd only recently left behind. Something in his subconscious, however, forced his gaze to lock back onto her as she seemed to contemplate a flower very, very seriously. He tilted his head curiously - still an inquisitive puppy at five years old - and oriented toward the mare, only to react instinctively when he realized what she was doing.

That was... that was nightshade. He remembered hearing about it from a strange black stallion who had stopped him from playing in a bed of it when he'd followed Arsinoe to the Mainland for the first time. And nightshade was deadly.

She was going to die if he didn't do something.

In a flurry of movement, he darted forward, head dropped down in a snaking position even as he shouted at her. "Hey! Don't do that!" Though aware of his larger size and weight, Raegar wouldn't hesitate to push into her space if she kept trying to eat it. When he felt like he'd put himself between them - whether he had or not - he would immediately begin trying to thrash at the nightshade bushes with his hooves as if they were a physical threat. He didn't understand someone who might see no other future for themselves and assumed that it had to have been a mistake, one he didn't want to watch someone make.

He made a face as the unpleasant smell of crushed nightshade rose around them and turned his head back to the little mare, concern and confusion wrote plainly across his face. "What the heck were you thinking?" For all his bluster and less than gentle approach, Raegar was not blind, and the exhausted expression on her face reminded him poignantly of the soul-deep tired he'd felt after he'd finally returned to the islands. "Hey, I'm sorry. You okay?" He reached forward slowly with his muzzle then, offering a gentle exchange of breaths.
