From a summers thread [Solgar/any]

Panthère stomped her small hoof in a puddle created in the muck by her mothers larger hoof. The roan filly could feel her mothers gaze on her hide and turned a blue eyed bald face up over her shoulder to meet a mirrored face. “Im not getting dirty I swear.” The paint splashed her hooves in the puddle a last time before trotting over to Winter with her head high. The little girl had about as much sass as her small frame would hold and the temper of the mountain cats the roamed the mountain passes. When Winter had finally picked a name for her, the little filly blushed remembering the incident that had given her, her name. The painted babe had been being a bit of a handful that day. It wasn’t all her fault though! The other foal was out in the herd playing but Winter wouldn’t let her go down and join in so she may have. Panthère ducked her head and looked back towards her mother walking awkwardly next to her, Winters blue eyes narrowed and her gold ears tucked back behind her mane. The filly flicked her ears back to mimic her dam. She had been trying to get back on her good side since she had maybe, purposely jerked her head up hard against her dams underside to get back at her for keeping her away from the others. The fillies little face scrunched up as she remembered the lashing she had gotten. Her rump was still sore.

“Come on darling, lets go meet your sire.” The gold mare sighed and rolled her eyes to nudged her fillies rump towards the trail that led down from their perch to go amongst the herd. Winter had searched the decent for amore level way down but with no luck often felt her daughter’s weight attached to her tail or her nose against her shoulder. “Please don’t run up and get all gushy with the roan Panthère.” Her blue eyes frowned down at the filly. She didn’t want her babe to risk getting hurt by the callused approach their leader had. The pair made their way through the trees, Winter gradually moving them out of the shadows and into the dim light of morning across the meadow their hooves splashing up the melting muck of the summertime. This had better go well Worried mother eyes glanced back at the painted foal splashing around, laughter bubbling up from her white chest. Winter had kept the pair hidden for the majority of the spring time, keeping Panthère close to her side and away from the eyes of the other equines that dwelled among the inlet. Her hips had slowly but surely mended to the point she could walk with an awkward gait around the inlet to check on the herd and look out for strangers. The golden mare looked over to see her daughter pouting for some reason and it made her chuckle. Such a serious expression on such a young face. “Panthère if you keep that up your face will get stuck like that now keep up please.” The mare relaxed her face and even let her ears come up half way as her blue eyes made out the frame of the roan. Butterflies took flight low in her belly, after her break down in front of the lead she had admittedly stayed hidden longer than she needed to. Winter picked up her head and drew up her frame as a front to his personality. Her hips had a new permanent tilt to them, the silly mare felt it was a sign of her weakness a new crack her brick wall. “Darling come here.” Winter chanced a quick glance away from the nearby roan to catch her daughter’s eye. She nodded for the painted girl to come closer. “The puddles are not going anywhere so will you please just stay still.”
