When Mera had first seen the stallion she had only smiled and tossed her head with another squeal, hoping he would play with her. The thought of being fearful of him or at least wary never entered her mind, still so innocent of the dark and evil things of the world. But instead of playing with her, his voice was firm yet kind, hoping to get her away from the water just as her mother did only he did not pin his ears and click his teeth in anger. Disappointed, Esmeralda stepped away from the water as he asked and before she could ask the million questions already swarming inside her young mind, he was the one already asking a question.


A sheepish expression passed over the girl’s face as she came to stand on the sand, her green eyes turning to look at him. He was oddly colored without the frosting of her mother and she carried. Instead he was much lighter without the black trim and a white blanket upon his hind quarters. Unashamed she stared openly at his strange colors before finally realizing she had not answered him.


“Mother was asleep under the palm trees when I got bored” Mera explained before she realized just how mad her mother would be since she had gone this far. Never before had she dared that before and as she finally gave thought to it, she gave a nervous look in the direction she had come. “She will be mad at me when she finds me” Looking back to the stallion she gave him a smile; the nervousness disappearing for a brighter expression. “I’ve never been in this territory! And you’re the first stallion I’ve ever met! What is your name?” Excitement pushed any more thought about her mother away, her ears twisting forward as she peered up at the stallion hopefully.
