Vesti
Vesti looked up, her ears twitched back at Orhan’s approach. For a moment, there was fear. There was fear that her secret was to be discovered. Badr had known, but he may not have made a scene. Grai had stated a number of times that his mother was crazy. Vesti’s insanity did retract with interaction, but so many years alone had meant the Voice had a stranglehold on her. For now at least. Vesti was the soul in control of the sorrel body.
She shook her head.
“I’m fine,” Vesti let out the sigh, letting her reflection return. “It was a bad dream.” She snorted and looked back at the storm clouds. She remembered the thunder and lightning of the Ridge. While Atlantis had been fine, the memory of it, Larke, and Nikola was fuzzy. She remembered he had chosen Pierce over her when Badr offered to return one.
She hated him for that.
“And an old habit,” Vesti sighed. “I tend to speak my thoughts aloud. No one used to be around to hear them.”
A convincing tale, the Voice cooed. Too bad you don’t believe it. I doubt he’ll buy it either. What will happen when they find out, hmm? Vesti shook her head, once again. Maybe she could just shake out the Voice as well as her distorted thoughts. But it’s echoing laughter said differently. She focused instead on the buckskin. She could use some company right now.
“Seems like clouds rolling in,” Vesti commented. “Think it’ll hit or miss tonight?”
of course i was afraid but i wasn't going to let fear stop me
