FROM THE OCEAN SHE RISES

Jörmungandr often found her mind wandering back to Olaf, the gamla tík and the rest of the herd. She found herself craving her father's comforting words and the old mare's words of wisdom however harsh they have might been. Perhaps she just wanted them to tell her to suck it up and be a grown up. It is a strange sensation to not have an older mare in the herd that she can glean wisdom from. Don’t get her wrong though, she would not trade her herd mates for all the wise, old codgers in the world, well, not the ones that were around anyway. Perhaps she’s trade a wayward mare….

Though the buckskin can be stubborn and at times, difficult, she appreciated her herd mates. Azazel, being the first she had met and one of the only one to stick close, is fast becoming someone Jörmungandr considered a good friend and perhaps even a confidante under the right circumstances.

She gave a dramatic sigh in response to the black mares words, a humorous smile crossing her lips, "It cannot come soon enough." She can't help but think the first words she will speak to her child will be a lecture on not being so boisterous and to be more respectful of its mother. She can’t really complain though, a healthy, active foal is all any mother wants. That’s the thing though - despite the pain, in the past few days she hadn't felt much movement. Another worry she had no one to ask about, no one who could put her mind at ease.

Azazel says she'll make a good mother and she casts her a curious look, "Do you think so?" she wonders, flicking her tail as the uncertainty creeps in "I am a little worried I will not know what to do." While Jörmungandr had been around foals in Olaf’s herd, she hadn't interacted much with her younger siblings while they were in their first few months of life. She has to wonder how she will deal with a newborn then. She supposes that instinct will kick in when the time comes.

Distantly, she wonders if her brother Magnus is preparing to leave for the islands now and if she might run into him when he does. Little does she know, he went against Olaf's advice and arrived at the beginning of the season. Jörmangandr would not be surprised to hear that particular story. It is with great affection that she hopes her own child is better behaved than Magnus was....than she was even.
