 Flynn had scrambled to his feet when he had heard Ellie speak, the sword falling out of his lap and onto the carpet with a thump. He was staring at her in disbelief and Dylan stood between them looking back and forth with a mischievous grin. “Is this one of those moments...” he asked when the silence dragged out a little, “where you want me to go to my bedroom?” At first, it seemed as if Flynn hadn’t heard him...but eventually he managed to mutter, “yes, thanks champ.” He didn’t take his eyes of Ellie though, so Dylan sighed, crossed the room and disappeared through one of the side doors. “Ellie,” Flynn managed when his brother was gone, “what...” He was interrupted when Renn appeared in the doorway, wiping paint of her hands with an old rag. She was dressed in her usual mix-match of colours, the rainbow streaks returned to her hair and a smudge of lime-green paint across her right cheek. “Flynn,” she said, her blue-green eyes narrowing a little, “did I hear that right?” Flynn nodded, and Renn moved further into the room, fixing Ellie with a piercing look. No one spoke. “You came back again then,” Renn said, a little curtly, throwing the rag onto the nearest table, “can I get you a drink of some kind, or can’t you stay?”  |
