al-sarim

There is a tale and it is well known, of the misery that life might bring…
But also of the rewards to those that endure and persevere,
For where there is sorrow there will be found great joy.

The light played on the dark chocolate coloration tinged with midnight shadows dancing across his lean frame. Night had fallen now and he had motioned out into a quiet space away from the crash of the falls, that he might look upon the stars of heaven. This celestial view was not as brilliant a display of the millions of stars that dotted the desert night sky, but it was not any less striking to look up and see those that have gone before…and those divine entities that continued to watch over their chosen. Al-Sarim was not desert born, but a Shiek of Calphir had told him he was chosen as they were to be of their numbers. His faith was unshakable from that day on…for he had long forgotten the name he was given at birth and accepted the name he was baptized with in the deserts of Calphir. The dark brute whispered soft mumblings of an evening prayer, and he bowed facing the Eastern star of Calliphus, the Great Star. Having done this he remained there still gazing up at the stars.

Do you like stars? Is that why you are alone?

Perhaps he had gone mad, one might think. But Sarim had acquired skills in the desert among the ranks of the great prince himself, and was more tuned to his environment than ever before. He sensed another nearby, quiet as death but not undetectable. A soft autumn breeze caressed his skin and he sighed carelessly as he now lowered his gaze and searched the lithe.

Come out dearest…I mean you no harm. The voice was softer now, the rough edge of his voice dulled slightly. Maybe it was so after prayers or just he wished not to frighten whomever was lurking. He guessed mare by the mild sweetness of her scent, ears pricked as he honed in on the direction form which the scent had come and waited to see if the stranger in the shadows would reveal herself (or himself if he guessed wrong).
