It was cold. It was cold and he did not appreciate being brought into this cold world. In protest, his very first breath was followed by a shrill whinny complaint. His final word was an authoritative snort, and it settled the matter. He would be returning to the warmth very swiftly and there was nothing anyone could do to make him believe otherwise.
Until the warmth got up and moved.
Another high complaint was sounded, and it too went unheard. He felt a nose and a tongue clean him off, offering a little respite from the stunning cold. Cleaned off his body shined gold. All but his face on which he wore a white mask from his nose, over his eyes, and to his ears. The white reached just far enough back to lick the front of his non-existent mane, while from the nape of his neck, his cheeks, and his chin were the solid palomino gold.
His colors did not keep him from being cold. Mother moved away from him to clean his brother and Dmitrei snorted as he got to his shaky feet. For a long time he kept close to her body, fed himself when he needed, and otherwise mourned his new life sentence.
Days passed and he began to forgive fate for bringing him into the world. After all, there were interesting things to see. Interesting things to do. Nipping at his brother and running away always seemed like a fun thing to do. When finally the days came to move them from the seclusion he followed obediently, and without vocal complaint. At first he trotted boldly forward, white ears trained on everything that could possibly be around them until he realized this was basically the exact same place they had been. Only bigger. Ears flattened superficial distaste as he stepped forward to poke at things around him. His gold foal tail hitting his hindquarters occasionally, trying to feign boredom.
