Diamant
So she was not a herd mare come to chastise him for intruding after all. Diamant felt himself relax slightly with this information, and he stood a little straighter, untucking his chin from his chest and pricking his ears forward. His lips parted while he considered how best to answer her question.
"Visiting also," he replied, then decided to elaborate lest the conversation die with those two words. "Someone once told me I had relatives on this island. I wanted to see what it was like."
A question niggled in his mind. Merete had said she used to live here - was she distant family, perhaps? There could not be many horses running around that looked like them, surely? He had certainly not seen any.
The young stallion shifted his weight and let his eyes dart around their surroundings to give himself a break from the mare's intense stare. His gut was churning with anticipation, and he could feel the question burning on the tip of his tongue. He withheld it in exchange for another, more harmless one.
"Are you the only one here? I didn't see any others on the tundra... Wouldn't that mean I'm not trespassing?"
