unfettered will fare the fenris wolf

fenrir

He felt her eyes on him from the moment she spotted him, like fire burning a hole right through him. Her gaze was harsh and unrelenting, yet Fenrir paid it no mind. He had dealt with ferocious and angry women before, and he would deal with her just the same – perhaps she would even add her own memento to his already battle-scarred hide. He studied her as he continued to graze on the luscious green shoots, however, figuring out what he could by her appearance.

She was average height, maybe a little shorter than him, and had a strong built. She looked more than capable of holding her own in a fight, even if Fenrir wasn’t looking for one. He found himself comparing her to ‘his’ forest mare, Menkhet, who had disappeared quite suddenly. She had looked at him like a predator studies its prey, and had every ounce of the elegance and grace of one stalking him. This mare was not as elegant the sooty forest mare, she approached him with a purpose and did not look as if she would beat around the bush. She would not play cat and mouse with him, but that could be fun too.

Her voice was as harsh as her gaze and Fenrir’s ears turned back briefly in response. Only after glancing away from the mare, to his left, to his right, and then back to the mare, did he lift his head to regard her. If this mare knew anything about the home she’d laid claim to, she’d have known calling him a trespasser was technically incorrect. He was here before her after all and you can’t just declare someone a trespasser because you claimed the land they’re already living on. He had squatter’s rights!

She was rude, but he liked that.

If he were any other stallion, he would probably apologise for intruding without introducing himself, but he was Fenrir, and the ridge was still somewhat ‘his’. In his mind, there was no intrusion and nothing to apologise for. ” I am no trespasser” he responded , his voice deep, and thick with a Nordic accent, ” I am Fenrir and I have lived here long before you marked this ridge as your own". Perhaps it was she who was the trespasser, he thought to himself, with the hint of a smirk.
