Valve studied Orhan carefully, watching the inner workings of his mind toil and twist like the retreating storm clouds above them. He was undoubtedly conflicted about forging an alliance with her, and she could understand why. However, it was important that he felt less trepidation when it came to their relationship. While the black mare wasn’t above using whatever means necessary to maintain her position, it was much easier to control someone when they were on your side.

“Information that may make a difference in regard to the safety of both our herds,” she answered, unfazed by his cautiousness. “I’ll share what I know and what I have seen with you so that we can keep the unfortunate tragedies of our past at bay.”

The dark mare paused a moment and decided that she should share a bit more with him, to ensure her good faith when it came to this deal.

“I had this same agreement in place with Gabbar, whom I believe you have met,” she continued. “Some time ago, he failed to inform me that he had met a pair of Lagoon stallions that had trespassed onto our land. As a result, they were able to smuggle one of the mares we had sworn to protect away from us. Gabbar and I fought them for her return of course. We succeeded, but unfortunately she was horribly mistreated.”

Valve paused again, letting Orhan see the genuine disappointment and upset in her face as she thought back to that ordeal.

“Her name is Evaline. And she still lives here, under my protection now,” Valve continued, implying that Orhan could visit and speak with her about what she had been through if there was still doubt about Valve’s character.

“If Gabbar had shared that information with me, perhaps I could have taken steps to prevent Evaline from getting hurt,” she finished, hoping Orhan would understand her reasons for the condition of their impending alliance, and maybe even feel a little more at ease with her on his side.
