She isn’t entirely sure whether to take him seriously but at his teasing look she laughs lightly. The cold water is a direct conduit to her good mood; she hasn’t realized how much she’d missed the icy feeling seeping into her skin. Perhaps she’ll have to pay a visit to Tinuvel once winter arrives, just to be able to fully brace herself against the chill again.
Selenium quickly realizes that something may have gotten lost in her explanation as the stallion almost looks horrified at her description. She realizes that she’d left out one crucial detail. “Oh no,” she says hurriedly, “each island here has its own climate. This one’s probably the mildest and most hospitable. Tinuvel is the one I was referring to, it’s that way.” She motions again toward her old tundra home.
She considers his comment. “I don’t know about that. While I lived there, I saw plenty of young ones that couldn’t wait to leave and plenty of outsiders happily settling there. I’m sure it’s personal preference just like any other climate.” She looks at him questioningly. “What kind of place did you come from?”
She doesn’t know if he ever loved wherever he used to live, but he obviously doesn’t now or she doubts he would have left it. These islands have such diverse climates that she has a feeling that at least one of them will be similar to where he’d come from.
She hasn’t noticed that he’s followed her into preoccupation, but she does catch his name. She unknowingly echoes his thought of how different it sounds and grins at him again. She hadn’t heard such a unique name since her old friend Aleksei, and it had been so long since she’d thought of him or anyone else she’d known on Tinuvel that it may as well have been a different lifetime, one that will have no bearing on whatever she ends up doing next.
