I am the razor in the hands of your heart;
And I am the razor in the hands of God.
Evaline shifts her weight back and forth over her thin legs in anticipation of another possible embrace from Valve. But her anxious, lustful energy fades when she hears the name of her daughter come from the black mare's lips. So much had happened since she'd last seen Vita Nova. She'd gotten updates on the girl's life from Shamwari and occasionally even Paradiso, but she hadn't seen the young mare since Nova returned to the islands. Evaline wondered if her child could hold a grudge as long and as intensely as she could. With the gentle roll of her brown eyes and a long sigh, she mused it was likely.
"Oh. Did Shamwari tell you that?" She quips with a quick swipe of her blonde tail. Evaline lets her gaze drift for a moment as her thoughts fall back to Vita Nova. She was still just a stringy filly when Evaline plucked her from their herd in the Prairie one late night. Not unlike the colt she just recently abandoned, Evaline forced Vita Nova to swim to the mainlands at an age that was questionable at best, given the strength required to make the long haul against the ocean's unpredictable currents. But Nova was a survivor, much like her mother. She proved that the day she was born. Nevertheless she was still just a child when Evaline took her on that crazy journey to find Shamwari. The palomino mare had been stricken at the time, paranoid and frantic over what had happened to her favorite son. So much so that she blatantly abused and ignored the daughter that still very much depended on her as her mother.
Evaline didn't blame Vita Nova for being mad. She didn't blame her for coming back here and trying to find her father back on Luthien. And even after all this time, Evaline didn't blame her for not coming to visit her, even though they lived on the same island, in neighboring terrains, even if she wished she would. Shamwari had told her once that Vita Nova came here, to the Dunes, looking for her. She told her that Nova even went to the Lagoon once to find her. But that was all hearsay. Vita Nova was bound to be manipulative -- she was Evaline's daughter after all.
Despite their strained past, Evaline couldn't ignore how hard her heart was beating in her chest at the opportunity to see her daughter. "Are we friendly with those who live in the Desert?"
