uneasy lies the head

uneasy is the head
That wears the crown

The monochrome stallion’s recent defeat had left him sour and sharp-tongued. It was not so much that Evren had escaped, though that did anger him, but that his illness had been the cause of his demise. Not only that, but now the pesky little fly had knowledge he had tried to hide from his herd. Snorting in agitation, the brute stomped his front hooves against the hard ground repeatedly, denting the earth. You need to calm down, you’ll trigger another attack, his more reasonable self said, and it was true. The quick movement, the pounding, it was likely to start the hammering in his head again. Yet, Orkaan could not calm himself. Huffing, he snapped his tail across his hindquarters. They cannot know I’m weak. They cannot know any of this. How am I going to get that imp back here before she says something to someone? How can I stop this from ruining me? fiery optics burned into the mountainside of the Inlet, so intense that you would think his gaze alone could melt the remaining winter snow.

At least the borders had been quiet. There had been no further signs of intrusion from other herds, the Bachelors, or even wolves. That was something to be grateful for at least. Snorting, the great beast arched his neck, drawing his chin close to his chest. A proud display for someone so sick. ’You must always keep up appearances. Do you understand? No one can see a King who is able to be dethroned. Otherwise you will have revolt on your hands. You will have a cou. A revolution most unwelcome.’ He recalled Owdeht’s words as he stared across his land, eyes focused on no one particular thing but clouded and far away with memory. ’There will always be someone trying to take something from you. That is the life of a King. Are you prepared for that my boy?’ Flattening his auds to his skull he nodded to himself. I will continue to be strong. This sickness is only temporary.

It was midday, and there was no need for him to do another round about the borders yet but it left the titan feeling restless. Perhaps he could relax himself enough to seek the company of one of his herd mates. Orkaan would never forgive himself if he hurt one of them, it was the entire reason for his recent seclusion, only stopping to check in for a few seconds each night.
