Ain't life just awful strange

a new world hangs outside the window
beautiful and strange
it must be I've fallen awake
I must be

She was bored.

Her short stint of life in the Peak had been blissfully boring, so far, for the little filly. Having been brought into this world on the tumultuous shores of the Inlet and spending the first few months of her life constantly moving over the hardy terrain of the Tinuvel island, her mostly uncomplicated existence on the mountaintop with her mother's "sisters" was paling in comparison. Sure, the stout bay filly enjoyed the company of other foals her age. She liked the twins and the equally adventurous Klara. She was slightly more curious about Wade, but he was merely a blip on her radar. Boys were a distraction. Wasp had noticed that her Aunt Rowena had seemingly soured to her company lately, but she let this roll of her back, too. She liked her aunt, of course, but if the big draft mare didn't want to play with her, then Wasp didn't want to play with her either.

Macabre was away with Rowena on this particular day. Wasp had been advised of this trip to another island, and was slightly disappointed when she wasn't invited to tag. She dreamed of traversing all of these islands she learned about since they established themselves in the Peak. There was so much exploring to do. But alas, she was "too young." Or at least that's what Macabre kept saying. So why did her mother look so disappointed when Wasp wasn't sorry to see them off without her? The bay filly snorts loudly at the thought.

She's lounging in a bed of spring flowers now, splayed out on one side, her barrel the only part of her body that's visible over the long grasses and colorful petals. She releases a bored grunt and rolls back onto all fours. If no one wanted to explore with her, then she'd just do it herself. So it was decided.

Jetta and whoever else seemed too busy anyway, so her departure from the Peak was almost too easy. She just meandered out in the open, down the forested path that led away from the mountain's sloping valley and toward the sound of the raging waterfalls in the distance. Her mother had told her about this place, but she'd never seen it for herself before.

Well, until now.
