I think you all know that SCOPION was commanded by classmate Frank Slattery. When it sank in 1968 I was Repair Officer on Simon Lake in Holy Loch Scotland and you can imagine the rumors and speculation.

I remained close to submarines for most of my career and never heard of possibility of Soviet intervention, but this item made me look more closely.

The most convincing argument as to what occurred is made by Bob Lagrassa, class of 1963; an experienced nuclear submariner. He states that the cause was a main battery explosion and he specifically debunks the theory that a Soviet attack was responsible.
