He kept alert as he charged around, eying any who even glanced in his direction, daring them to approach. Nothing would stand in his way anymore. He was untamable, feral in all ways. He hadn't been around other horses since his time as a yearling. Most of the time after that was spent hollering over fences to other horses but they were always kept away. He barely knew how to socialize with his own kind anymore and he didn't care. Why should he? The world didn't care about him. He'd had to fend for himself. It was a miracle he wasn't skin and bone. But here he stood, a stallion in his prime no matter the odds. If the world couldn't defeat him, who could? He knew he would need to find a herd to call his own and that would mean getting mares. He couldn't live under the rule of another stallion, he wouldn't. He bowed to no one.

He'd never had the chance to breed while in captivity, though oh, how he'd wanted to. When their sweet scents were ripe in the air, he'd done all he could to get over the fence but he was too awkward and not confident enough to try more than run the fence lines, whinnying and yearning for them. No one would stop him this time. He would fill this land with his seed and watch his offspring thrive and flourish. His gaze was drawn to a palomino mare wandering around. There was an oddity to the way she walked, close to the trees but not as if she were hiding. Her ears swiveled but her eyes stared straight away, their gaze unwavering. Strange. He scented the air and was pleased to find no recent herd scent on her. She would be his, then. It was as if she knew it too, since she seemed to be coming his way anyway.

He expected her to stop but instead she kept right on going. Almost amused at this point, he held his ground, only to have her walk right into him. It was probably about like walking into a rock wall, since he barely moved, but his ears pinned flat to his skull, his immediately instinct to retaliate in anger that she would dare to disrespect his space. But as she scrambled backwards, he curled his lips, ready to bite, only to pause when he heard her words. Blind? He'd never met a blind mare before. His nostrils wrinkled in distaste. How was she still alive? Surely someone should have killed her at birth. But here she was, seemingly about his own age and walking around without a herd. He thought about attacking her for the hell of it. He could even put her out of her misery. But then he remembered his motive.

He needed to build a herd, a bloodline, a legacy. Useless eyes didn't make a useless uterus. Maybe the blindness wasn't hereditary. If it was, he could always end her and the defective foal later down the road. If not, she could be of some use to him. His lips curled into a menacing sneer as he leaned in, letting his musky breath warm her face as he spoke in his low deep voice. "Blind lady should get a seeing eye horse if she were smarter. But seeing as how you're not, I guess that leaves the gentlemanly deed to me." He chuckled as he moved to her side and pushed himself up against her, shoulder to shoulder, hip to hip. "Now, why don't you be a good lass and let's take a little swim. You shouldn't stay out here all alone. You'll be dead before next dawn." His voice was admonishing, like he was talking to a child. There was no compassion or sympathy in his tone, only authority and a finality to his words like there was no room for argument.

As he waited to see if there was a rebellious bone in her body, he leaned as if to let his lips brush her ear as he hissed. "You'd hate to be blind AND crippled, right?" The underlying thread was clear. If she gave a fuss, he'd made sure she regretted it.
