We found each other in the dark

Through the black starless water,
And the cold lonely air. On the rock restless seas.

The delicate palomino mare was enjoying her time in the Bay thus far, if only for the freedom it offered away from her dam and stand-in sire, Vita Nova and Warsaw. Requiem was nice enough - maybe a little nervous, at times - so she couldn't say she didn't enjoy his company either. But what Tavas liked the most about living here was her independence. She woke each morning and bid Requiem farewell for now, to explore the vast terrain. There was so much of it to see - that as the weeks and even months passed, Tavas had yet to take the same trail twice. A few times she'd stumbled into some remarkable little enclaves - a low-lying field peppered with beautiful, lavender flowers. Or a gorgeous crystal blue lake tucked in in between a forest of pine.

But soon the season would change, Tavas knew, and the darker clouds would cover the sun for months at a time. She knew she'd need to rely on Requiem more those days for survival. Quietly she wondered if their low numbers would be a problem come the winter time. Warsaw's robust herd relied heavily on each other in the harsher climates. But the little yellow mare trusted Requiem. She had no reason not too.

She toiled across the stony beach on this blustery morning, her chipped hooves taking careful strides across the black and grey pebbles that made up the shoreline. She was so entranced in her own thoughts that she didn't immediately recognize the body on the beach in front of her... until it was too late. Tavas looked up and immediately jumping off all fours, her delicately dished face whipping high over her withers in startlement. She snorted once as she took several steps backward.

This stranger looked in rough shape. But she was still standing. Tavas cautiously tested the air, her whiskered nostrils flaring as she tried to search past the strong salt of the sea to catch a fresh scent on this horse. But she didn't find one. "Are you OK?" Tavas finally managed to mutter, her face distorted into something trying to feign concern, when she was mostly just uncomfortable. The mare looked around along the desolate shore for any sign of Requiem, but he clearly wasn't around.
