He didn't understand the protective nature in which the second mare had taken to the first, acting as her guardian even though it was clear they didn't know each other. Maybe he would have admired it had he known such compassion himself in his youth but it was only cattle prods and hot branding irons that kept him company in that time. He only understood that he'd found the mare first. She literally walked right into him, and so he'd found fit to assign her a home where he could watch over her and yet her rejection stung to the fact that his ego drove him on. If he were to give up now, he would just be a coward who backed down from two mares. He would be known as such throughout the islands and that was not a good rep for a stallion. No, he would come away today with a mare or two. He would persist until they saw that as well.

He made sure to make his words as vile as can be. Why shouldn't he? The blind mare was ungrateful and the second mare was just pushy and annoying. Why couldn't they see that this was how the horse world worked? Sure, he might be more rough around the edges than most, but either way, the general idea was the same. Lead stallion claims a mare and takes them back to their herd where they protect them and have them carry their children into the next generation. What kind of self righteous population was this that mares decided they didn't have to go with a stallion just cause they didn't like the way he talked to them? He didn't get it at all. Maybe he'd been out of the wilderness for too long. In his world, if you didn't go where you were told, you were beaten until you couldn't stand. He was going rather easy on the mares, in his opinion.

As the second mare charged him, he lunged forward, gaining more momentum, knowing his size was to his advantage. He curled back his lips, gnashing his teeth at the air as they closed the distance. A single ear flicked forward as the mare squealed something that sounded like a name. Everglow. Was that the blind mare's name? He'd never gotten it. He would remember it now. Even as the second mare strove to stay between them, he rained down nips and pawed at her with his front hooves, trying to drive her from between them. His ears stayed painted to his skull, eyes narrowed in disapproval as his nostrils flared and he snorted roughly. As the mare screamed at him, he screamed right back. "I don't even know what you said but you're pretty annoying yourself. I was here first, lady." As she said that the mare, Everglow, belonged only to herself, he snorted and tossed his mane.

"Not in this day and age, darling. Unless she plans to go start a herd of her own somewhere, she's better off in the care of a stallion who can look out for her. Have you seen her walk?" His lip twitched in humor. As she reached out to nip at his shoulder, he leaned into her teeth, grunting in pleasure as she pinched the skin. While she was distracted doing that, he reached out himself to plant a nip of his own around her head or neck, wherever he could reach. Fair's fair, right? He kind of liked this new game. When she told him that he couldn't have her, he chuckled. "Not up to you, sweetheart. Even if I don't get her today, I'll just keep coming for her. Now, I have her scent and her name. What's to stop me?" When she told him if he touched Everglow again, she would make him regret it and he laughed outright this time, eyes twinkling with mischief as he curled his lips back in a sneer.

"Oh, you're just tempting me more, pet." She went on, saying she wouldn't forget and she wouldn't rest if he took her. She continued, putting on an adorable little show with her flared nostrils and stomping hoof. She said she would hunt him down not rest till she got her back. She said she would lead others to him and he all but grinned this time. "The more, the merrier, lovely. I live to fight. I might just eat good if you bring a sturdy enough meal ticket for me. And you're more than welcome to visit anytime you like." He said with a wink. He only looked upon her threats as promises for the future, really. As she stepped forward, he did the same, not minding being in her space just as she was challenging his own. He raised his head in dominance, leaning his face in till he could breathe on her own. She spoke of her mother and he snorted. "I could give two fucks about your mother and her people. Maybe that's part of the reason they lost their way. Just saying, sounds like an awful way to live, just watching over others, especially if they were blind, too. At least, I'd have fun doing it."

Her next words took him by surprise. She'd go with him? His ears flicked back and forth uncertainly. She told him to leave Everglow and she would do as he said. He tilted his head, considering her. She really was a brave little thing. She was a looker, as well, and damn, that fire. He'd like to mold it, see what kind of herd mare she'd make. She told him she would be companion, foal giver, and said she could thrive in the desert. His eyes brighten. Finally, someone who appreciated his home. She said she would fight for him even, something he didn't expect in the least. Not, that he really believed her on that one, but it was still nice of her to say it. She was asking him never to go after Everglow again, though. Asking a hunter to give up the hunt? His tail swished in agitation. Decisions, decisions.

He studied her features as she said she could stand against her or with him. He had a feeling no matter what, she would be against him, no matter her outward actions. She said her name was Vihaan. He wouldn't forget that any time soon. She said this was his only chance and it was her choice. He hadn't forgotten the stallion who still followed as well, though. He remembered well the way they collided and how the smaller stallion had gone after his legs, trying to take him to the ground. In answer, he'd only roared and stomped his large hooves, trying to pummel the stallion's face and muzzle, whatever got in his way. Luckily, his thick feathering protected him for the most part and he came away with only scrapes and missing hair/skin. The guy really was a pest, though. At least, Cain had managed to get his shoulder, tasting his blood on his tongue which was like heaven after a hiatus in hell. He'd wanted more, much more, but his hunt had to come first.

The stallion's teeth had hit home as well, grabbing onto Cain's muscled shoulder but instead of jerking away, Cain had leaned into the contact, groaning as if in pleasure as his skin was pierced. Ah, how he'd missed that sensation. Pain was an old friend of his, something he'd gotten quite used to in his captivity and something he'd come to miss almost immediately upon leaving them. It was the only time he'd felt anything besides alone with the humans so he'd come to look forward to those times of torture. Now, it was something he could hold onto, something familiar. Even as the other stallion had stopped by the mares, facing him like they were opponents on a battle field (guess anywhere can technically become one), Cain had pricked on ear toward him as he spoke, asking about the truce. Cain gnashed his teeth at the stallion. "The truce wasn't for you, buttercup, so don't you worry your pretty little head. I have no need to damage the mares if they cooperate. You are dispensable, and your blood is calling for an encore."

Meanwhile, Everglow had made her voice heard as he dove at Vihaan, telling him shut up and he only chuckled in response. She really had a fire to her as well. It would be admirable, if it wasn't so damn irritating. When Vihaan offered herself, he glanced toward Everglow in curiosity, sure that she wouldn't go along with it. She was all self righteous as well, so it was to be expected. As if on cue, she yelled in disagreement, telling the mare not to be stupid and that they could go and swim to Luthien. He turned to her. "Do you really think you'd make that swim so easily? I may be big but I'm pretty fast, chica. I might just drown you along the way if you think escape is your best option." He could sense her fear and he reveled in it. She then turned to the other stallion, demanding he kick Cain's ass. He laughed at her audacity. "You got balls, sweetcheeks, I'll give you that." He glanced at the stallion, humor glittering in his eyes. "You heard the lady. Sick 'em, like a human's mutt, meant only to take commands from those superior to himself."

His body was practically vibrating, waiting to see if he could drive the stallion to attack again. He couldn't get enough of violence and another chance to taste the male's blood? Who could pass that up? Maybe he'd get a good chunk of meat this time, something worth eating. Then he remembered that Vihaan was probably growing impatient for her answer. He turned back to her, meeting her gaze with the closest to respect that he'd given anyone since coming to the islands. "You talk a good talk, but I need to see the walk to believe anything you say. If you go willingly to the Desert and carry my foals, I will give up my hunt on Everglow. I know you trust my word about as much or less than I trust yours but I will prove it in my actions." He wasn't going to give a big speech on it or anything. Leave that to her. His point was made. He'd take her up on the offer as long as she stuck to her word. The moment she got out of line, it should be obvious that he would go back on his promise as well.
