Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Tell me, tell me I survived.

I find myself feeling more at ease in the painted mare's company the longer our journey stretches on. Her demeanor is cool and collected, but our banter comes more natural than I anticipated. By the time we rise onto the shores on Tinuvel, we feel more like a team in a way, united in our intentions, but also perhaps as friends, in a new development. It takes a weight off my shoulders.

The chill in the air causes me to shake, my whole body whipping back and forth every so often, in an attempt to expel what's left of the layer of seawater from my coat. Creamy plumes of carbon dioxide rise with every hearty breath I take. The brisk air stings my lungs, but I feel more alert than ever. We walk slowly into Warsaw's terrain, but I don't dare to journey too deep. Warsaw is smart and intuitive. If we're feeling the tension all the way back on Luthien, I imagine he is feeling some of it, too. He'll be prepared. Maybe he's even anticipating us.

It doesn't him long to find us. When I hear the first twig snap, my head juts up high over my withers. I cast a serious glare in Evren's direction and we halt. It's better if he finds us, then the other way around.

I don't dare step closer to Evren - she is an equal in this regard. She's not someone who necessarily requires protection. So we stand together as he approaches. He's quick to grumble, and my copper-colored ear lobes flick back against my poll momentarily as he mentions my son. But I try to let his words roll of my back. There's no need to escalate things further, especially if we hope to get some face time with my sister.

"Warsaw." I reply, once he's had his say. "Jabari is part of the reason why we're here."

I let my gaze flick to Evren once again, but only briefly. My nostrils flare and I take in a deep breath. "I owe you an apology for what Jabari's done." The words ooze from my lips, but it doesn't make it any easier to stomach. "He came here on his own accord, and he made a mistake. He shamed our family by doing so." My jaw clenches and I shift my weight uncomfortably. "He's joined the Lagoon bachelors as a result, and will pay for his foolish behavior. For that, you have my word." My damp tail flicks over my haunches. "And I'm here today to offer you my apologies face-to-face. I am sorry."

I look to Evren again, and wonder if she's ever met the grey stallion in person. "This is Evren, an ally from the Forest." I explain in casual introduction. "She's been a lifelong friend to Vita Nova. We hoped to see her today."
