Persephone’s call was returned swiftly, and it was with a sense of relief and a kind of satisfaction that she realised the respondent was a mare as she drew nearer. Although there was no guarantee that the mare would be any more amicable than a stallion, it always pleased Persephone to see another female reader, and at the very least it seemed unlikely that Warsaw would be able to get a mare onside given his issues.
