Stay wild, Moon Child

She walked in moon dust,
but stars were sprinkled in her hair.

At the stallion's words Feray knew she had made a stupid mistake; letting her mouth speak without much thinking. Wayward dreams of a young filly trapped in a seasoned mares mind. He may not have meant to change the tone of their conversation with the revealing of his dead mother, but Feray felt his loss deeply. Her smile faltered, only for half a second before tugging at her dark lips again; there was still time to turn this around. Stepping forward once more she stretches her neck out so that she may touch her dark muzzle to his lighter one in a comforting way, softly blowing out through her nose as she sought to make up for her chatty mouth. “I am truly sorry for your loss and bringing those memories back to light for you,” Feray keeps her voice soft as she apologizes, the honesty of her words shining bright in her mismatched eyes.

“So your looking for another mare?,” she goes on to question, “wherever did you journey from if I may ask. Your coat still sheds the tears of the ocean so I can only assume you have swum here from one of the other islands in search of your damsel”. As she was speaking Feray takes the time to remove herself from his space temporarily, long legs pulling her to come around again and alongside the stallion, letting the warmth of her shoulder and side just barely touch his own as she sought to shield him from the winds until he could fully dry. “Don’t want the chill to get you before you can find what your looking for,” Feray explains before he can move or try to usher her away, and on the same note of the friendly tone she speaks, “Call me Feray little painted one. I would love to hear about your journey. Sometimes more than one pair of eyes searching helps.” She keeps her head low out of consideration of his height.

Feray knew the pain of the search as her own would continue to go on unanswered; unknowingly to her. She knew where her mother lay, back where she had come from too tired to make the journey home with her daughter, but what of her father and brother? Perhaps they waited her return home on the beaches of the desert. She would soon find out.
