Needing a break from the warm sun and the dryness of the Desert, Cain loped into the waves and found himself swimming toward the main land. It had been a while since he'd gone there. He knew he needed to recruit more mares but since he had a good following, he wasn't as desperate anymore. He knew he didn't have the biggest herd on the islands but he wasn't asking for that either. He just wanted to make sure his lineage was being handed down to strong mares and that he was able to keep his herd safe. So far, he'd been getting his fair share of battles, between that attempted raid and the two battles he'd engaged in with the bay mare who wanted him out so badly. He wasn't leaving that easily but she would learn that on her own, soon enough.

In the meantime, he made his way toward the shore of the falls, wondering if anyone would be wandering around that might want to talk a little. He might get lucky and happen upon a homeless mare, but he wasn't getting his hopes up. Besides, he didn't have much experience in getting mares to go with him willingly, besides Geneva who followed him after he bred her and Harlequin, who he had to earn the respect of before she would follow him back. He knew he was changing though. He had grown from the aggressive bully who just charged in and tried to take what he wanted into something more. He was learning how to interact with other horses little by little, adapting by their reactions to certain mannerisms. Sure, he still stood by his beliefs on a lot of things and he wasn't afraid to speak the truth, no matter how brutal, but he'd like to say he was more civil than he used to be.

His mares were changing him. Geneva was mild mannered and kind to him and she was teaching him how to groom other horses and build a relationship with them. Harlequin was teaching him how to flirt and still get what he wanted with a smooth tongue instead of sharp hooves and punishment tactics. Primrose was definitely a learning curve since they didn't start out on the best terms but he felt that slowly but surely he was learning how to communicate with her better by being helpful and gentle instead of brass and forward. Vihaan would definitely take a different approach as well when she came to the Desert. He had seen so many sides of the mare when she was protecting Everglow from him. She was fierce and non-compliant, steadfast and noble. Yet when he had her alone to breed with her, she turned into a fragile thing, barely holding on and he felt that protective urge to take on her burdens and help her grow.

He only wanted the best for his mares, whether they saw it or not. Sure, he wasn't always the greatest at communicating that, but he was learning. His past didn't help him out a lot with others, but in the few months he had been on the islands, he already felt like a changed stallion. He still had his rough edges, but he was finding smoother ones too. He snorted to clear his nostrils of the sea water as he walked up on land and shook out his coat. His winter coat was in full swing and it made things warmer in the Desert since it wasn't exactly snowing a lot over there, but he stil wouldn't trade his land for anything. It was his home. He lifted his proud head, dark eyes gazing over his surroundings before he let out a call, testing the air to see who might respond.
