When the wolf comes to call;

Akela could not lie. When mother and father plunged into the rolling surf bound for the distant islands just barely visable on the horizon, he had been thrilled. Of course there was the initial pang of loneliness, fears and what-ifs that plagued his mind on the somber expression and stoic faces of those that were gone. But father was quick to push away his worries and thus set in the excitement. He knew Calypso was around, keeping as close an eye on him and the other foals as possible. Gnome even could be seen occasionally, his painted hide dappled by the sheltering branches above. Neither of them had wanted to join the war... But Akela did. Even now he imagines himself in father's hooves, moving fleet and silent through the dense underbrush and brittle leaflitter. Of couse his attempt at grace was hindered by hidden roots, but he kept his head high, dipping occasionally to snap at a fluttering moth or jumping frog that did not leap from him fast enough. In his little world he rules this island.

Dark eyes of green gleam in the pale light as ears twitch forward suddenly alert. Voices. Noctis he recognized but there was another? It does not take long for his brother to call for him. But perhaps he recognized Akela as the lord of Paradise while father was away? Likely not. But to call for him... Why?

Curiosity would always likely be his downfall as on prancing steps the grullo colt ducks beneath a low hanging limb and crests the ridge leading down to the sandy beach. There. A filly by scent... Familiar scent... Why was it familiar? She sure did look alot like mother.

Akela attempts a low pitched whicker but the sound still resonates high in his throat as he half trots and half hops to Noctis. You called Noctis? Hey why does she look like mother? He asks bright multifaceted gaze staring expectantly up at the filly. A single brow raised as he waited as impatiently as a young boy could be expected to wait for such important answers.
