I'm falling for you again

How do I form a connection when we can't even shake hands?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxYou're like a phantom greeting me

She was returning to her old habits. In the months that Nereid had lived in the dunes, she had only ventured out once. She had journeyed to the meadows and met an equine known as Icarus. When she had returned, she had lingered on the fringes of the territory again. It had been many moons since she had last spoken to Soder and she had desired to keep it that way. He was not hers. So many mares vied for his love and affection. How could she compare?

It was in the wee hours of the morning that saw Nereid venture away from the dunes. Selene still cradled the world within her arms, casting a silver glow across the sands. There is a nip in the air, credence given to the heat of the day and the cold of the night within the desert world. Her whispered prayer's to Erebus are rewarded with shadows enveloping her frame and hiding her from sight.

It is a long journey that leads Nereid to the very edge of the Dune's territory. Her auds swivel as the sounds of the ocean crashing against the shore become more apparent. A tired smile dances across her lips and her paces quickens in excitement. The first sight of the ocean has her heart pounding and laughter bubbling freely from her mouth. Oh how she had missed it!

"The dunes may hold my heart but the ocean hold's my soul."

Dashing forth, the white mare plunged boldly into the frothing liquid. A playful shriek escapes her lips as the cold water darkens her flesh. Spinning on her hooves, Nereid ghosts along the shoreline. She has no destination in mind nor a true care in the world. All she knows is joy.

It could have been hours or mere minutes when Nereid finally halts her wild gallop. Her sides heave with exertion but there is a brightness in her eyes that she had lacked in the past months. She prances in place before rearing and spinning in an ancient dance known only to those of her blood. Her movements are elegant and precise, spinning a tale of hope and loss. Golden orbs are closed, blind to the world as she dances her sorrows and her joys.

It is only the sound of morning birds that break Nereid out of her reverie. Her daggers kiss the ground once more as she finishes the last steps of her song. "I do not remember the last time I danced. What joy is it that fills my heart so?" she questions, even though she knows the answer. Her soder.

"I feel like a foal again."

Nereid shakes her crown in exasperation but can't help the smile that plays on her lips. I am a young filly again cooing over her crush.
