Days had turned into weeks, then months, then seasons since he had last seen his mother. Worry had set like a stone, deep in the pit of his gut. Why was it taking her so long to return? Bacardi had never spent so much time alone before. His mother�s watchful eye had always been on him since the day he was born. As if she were afraid something might happen to him. At first the freedom had been exhilarating. Exploring the Crossing as if he didn�t have a care in the world. Now his world seemed empty, each day becoming bleaker than the last.

The young stallion wandered aimlessly, not sure whether he still lingered near the falls or closer to the meadow. Aside from once with a Lagoon filly, he hadn�t found anyone to keep him company. Perhaps the loneliness was getting to him the most. If only he could find another friend, or at least an acquaintance to pass the time with.

As if his thoughts had conjured her, Bacardi�s wolfish gaze fell upon the filly grazing alone. The lines upon her face nearly match his; the tiredness in her structure beyond her years. Yet she looked no older than him. Giving a heavy sigh, he contemplates whether he should approach her or not. Maybe he should return to the Peak and see if anyone had returned? Bacardi knew the moment he thought it, that it was just wishful thinking. Ears laying back a bit with his head held slightly lower than his withers to show a subdued attitude, the brow and white colt made his way over to her.

�You look as if the world weighs on your shoulders.� He said in greeting. His voice, spoken somewhat quietly, was not as deep as a stallion�s but no longer the squeak of a colt. Bacardi was growing up, whether he liked it or not.
