The free lands were looking better and better as he recuperated from his battle wounds. His flanks were still bruised and the fresh cuts were just now starting to scab from Vasilissa and Ruger's hooves. He sought comfort with Geneva and his other mares in the Desert, but Primrose and Paisley were never far from his thoughts. He still considered himself their protector and he would never stop trying to gain their freedom. His gaze kept going to the ocean and the other islands, wondering how Primrose and his daughter were doing. Did they want to get back to the Desert? Was she happier in the Thicket? He hated not knowing how they were doing. He walked into the water, feeling goosebumps on his skin as he made the swim to the free lands.

The swim didn't take too long. He trudged up on the banks of the Falls, shaking out his coat before he looked around with a light sigh. The first scent that he came across was a young stallion. He remembered a time when he would have felt threatened and wanted to hurt the younger male, but now all he could picture were his own sons, growing up so strong and independent. He wanted to be a good male role model for them. Every colt deserved as much. Curious, he ventured closer. The sun started to come up over the horizon, striking his wet tobiano coat and making the ebony of his fur glisten. His dark brown gaze fell on the sleeping form just as the colt started to awaken so he stopped a few feet away, giving him space as the colt looked around cautiously. Lowering his head, he let out a gentle snort. "Hello, there. I'm Cain. What are you doing out here?" His head tilted in curiosity.
