The mare before her seemed to have a good sense of humor, smirking as if at her own thoughts before her gaze rested on Monster. The grullo paint knew she could let the mare find out for herself how Liland really was but with the anger running through her, she coulnd't just let it go. No, she was done holding it in and lettng him continue to drag mares through the dirt when it came to anything he wanted. Sure, he could be downright sweet to certain mares. She'd seen it herself. But once he set his mind on something, he didn't care who got in his way. Everyone was just collateral damage at that point and that wasn't okay. Hope flickered in her blue and brown eyes when the dapple gray mare looked curious, giving her a welcoming grin before introducing herself as Leyra. Monster dipped her head. "Of course. A pleasure, Leyra."

See? She could be polite when she wanted to. Rougaru would probably be laughing if he could see her actually being friendly right now. Of course she had a mission in mind and maybe that was what kept her tongue in check, at least a little. A single ear flicked when the mare said Liland had talked of baggage and she let out a soft snort and shook out her mane. "That's one way to look at it but it's more like a stick that he won't put down long enough for it to stop beating him in the legs." It was a good imagery in her mind. He was crippling himself with his own actions and yet he still couldn't put down his pride long enough to take the blame for any of it. It was all Rougaru and now Zjeena that "had it out for him." Like he was just minding his own business and they swooped in to bully him. Well she'd been there to watch from the beginning and frankly, she was growing tired of the victim card he kept dealing out like it was in style.

Leyra said she hoped to convince him to let it go and Monster nodded. "It would be nice if that were possible. You wouldn't be the first to try but who knows?" The mare giggled and Monster pricked her ears to the sound, so foreign to her ears. Then Leyra asked her to tell the tale and Monster thought for a moment, wondering where to start. Finally she sighed. "I guess it all starts with Zjeena. She's a pretty Fjord mare that used to be Liland's lead mare, the love of his life. At least that's what he said. My lead stallion, Rougaru, stole her for his herd. In turn, Liland stole me. While she was with him, Rougaru and Zjeena developed feelings for each other. Meanwhile Liland made empty threats to hurt me if anything happened to Zjeena and when I called him on it, he said he wouldn't do anything. You can imagine my disappointment." She gave a little snort and rolled her eyes. She did lose some respect for the stallion that day. What kind of leader growls his intentions on one hand then can't follow through? She was used to stallions like Rougaru, alpha males who go after what they want and don't back down.

That was her idea of a strong leader, someone you can trust to follow and give you strong children in turn. But she should probably continue. "When Liland didn't come for her, Zjeena eventually grew impatient and made a deal with Rougaru to get away. She let him breed her in exchange that she could be free to return to Liland. Rougaru accepted and when she went back, Liland was so angry about her breeding with Rougaru that he forbid her from ever seeing him again and tried to ban Rougaru from seeing his future children. He made Zjeena his prisoner and never let her go anywhere without himself as escort. It broke Zjeena and she wanted to escape. Liland would only allow her to go if she let him breed her the following season and if she left the children they shared in the herd with him. It broke her heart but she took the deal and came back to Rougaru and my herd. As disgusting as the idea was, she went to him this past season and allowed him to breed her, though she didn't want to. Now she's pregnant with his child and he has repeatedly tried to enforce rules on her and the unborn child.

"He wants to be in its life, which is understandable, but he's going about it the wrong way. He doesn't think Zjeena will allow him to see the child so instead of talking to her, he recently challenged for her. Rougaru wanted to give something back to her after everything she went through so he challenged Liland and after two tries, he won Liland's herd. Then he gave it to Zjeena. They were her herd mates, her friends and her family. She had once been their leader, their protector. Now, I assume Liland is trying to grow another herd and instead of fighting for his own herd back, he came after her again. He cancelled his challenge but if Zjeena doesn't let him have exactly what he wants, he'll just challenge again. That's his way." She sighed, shaking out her mane again and met the mare's gaze with a softer expression. "I'm not saying that story will have anything to do with your time with him. Liland is not a bad stallion by default, but when it comes to feelings, he acts in the extreme. He holds a strong grudge against Rougaru and if you so much as breath his name, Liland would find some way to punish you, or at least threaten to. But if you're loyal and attentive to him, he would probably be the kindest stallion you've ever met. I'm not saying you shouldn't give him a chance. I just want you in the know in case anything else happens because that story isn't nearly done and I have a feeling while stallions still have ego's, it will continue for a long time yet."

Her lips twisted into a sneer as she shook her head and stomped the ground at the end. She knew Rougaru had his pride as well and he wasn't totally innocent, but as far as she could tell, he did things for Zjeena whereas Liland did things to her. That was the difference and Zjeena was a friend of hers, one of her few. Liland needed to quit dragging her into his feud with Rougaru because Monster was tired of seeing her break. It only made her want to break him.
