It was obvious the mare would do just about anything to avoid the water altogether. The idea made Dex smirk since they were literally surrounded by it. Maybe she would live out her life happily ever after on the mainland but he had to wonder how one could truly be happy just living as a nomad in an open land with no real friends that stick around or a leader to make you feel safe. She seemed confident enough of her place here but he couldn't help but wonder how long that would last before she started to crave more long term connections with others, something more than you could have in a single conversation. Of course, that was none of his business. She seemed almost puzzled when he asked about her safety from predators, as if not understanding why he would care. Though he had no calling to lead his own herd or have a number of mares at his beck and call, being a protector was still in his genes and he hated to leave anyone defenseless. She gestured around the Meadow, saying she didn't have any real trouble cause of all the horses coming and going here. He nodded in acknowledgement, his gaze softening in acceptance. As long as she felt safe, that had to be what was important. Then she asked if he braved the cold to explore and said he was made of tougher stuff. He gave a chuckle and shook his head with a snort. "Or just more stupid stuff. I don't know my way around the islands yet, having not been here too terribly long. I want to know the politics and the safe places to go, back-up's in case I need them. If bad news finds me, it probably won't wait on sunny weather." He said with a small smirk. He wanted to be prepared for anything, not wanting to leave anything to chance now that his future dreams were in sight.
