It dawned on Relke that the golden mare truly did not know Rille was a stallion, in a way that revealed she may never have met a stallion before in her life. Or maybe even heard of one. Relke tilted her curiously. The term ‘sisterhood’ that Elain had used earlier seemed to don a new meaning. Had she been raised exclusively around mares? Were others of her sisterhood the same in their ignorance of the other sex? Relke held no judgment, only fascination as her blue eyes flitted between the two horses in the stream.

She could tell Elain was becoming embarrassed, so Relke held back the chuckle she had almost let slip. It would have been friendly, but she still did not want to laugh at her companion if her companion was not laughing as well. ”Have you not met a stallion before?” she asked, her tone light, but not in jest. ”They are different from mares, physically,” she said, not sure how else to explain it. She wanted to exchange a look with Rille - she was also curious how he was taking the situation - but did not want Elain to think they were sharing a secret joke without telling her. In the end, she did cast her gaze to the dark stallion, but mostly for the purpose of asking silently for help. She truly did not want Elain to feel embarrassed, but also felt that she would be a bad friend for withholding information. Especially information like this, which was not only helpful, but essential in herd life.

She thought Rille did a much better job of explaining than she would have herself. When he spoke of the waterfall, Relke nodded. ”I was covered in salt from my swim from the mainland,” she said, backing out from the mist of the falling water to allow Rille some room if he wished to drink, or bathe. ”Did you come from the mainland as well?”
