Melisma had seen the sparkle in Cain’s eyes, had wanted to smile in response to the new look upon his face. But the dark mare cannot bring herself too, not when this nagging feeling would not relent. She had not meant to let it show upon her face, not wanting to ruin the moment, but it seems the feeling just won’t stay hidden. Or he was better at reading her than she had thought?
Raising her green eyes up to him, Melisma gave a soft sigh. She knew she could deny it, to say it was nothing and be on her way back to the main island. But that would not be fair to Cain, he would know she was lying, and if she was honest with herself, it wouldn’t be fair to her either. “It’s just….” she trailed off, having trouble finding the right words. “This is my first home, and you are my first stallion. With the up coming season….. I’m not sure what I was expecting to happen.” Melisma gave a small shake of her head, as if feeling silly for even saying such. “I’m sorry, Cain. I’m being childish.” It wasn’t like she was a fool hearted filly anymore.
