TO BE SWIFT, RACING THE FOUR WINDS

She had always been sharp wit and sharp tongue, though always hidden behind the pretense of propriety when it need be. It livens even his Shu-sold spirit to be battered with it again, realizing swiftly why he had thought the mares here so droll and dandy enough to banter with but nothing more. It is unusual, his royalty paired with the ability to take barbs and jest with lightness and without burdened pride. He always had been, after all, the wilder brother.

“Pakhet values your service above all, then… it has been years since any even of that platoon could boast outmatching a hunting Atair.” He laughs, thinking on it, “I think perhaps you ought to keep it up, take him down a peg or so still.” The whole of Mira knew Aldebaran to be the most puckish, playful Prince that ever disgraced his brothers - so suggesting this could not have come as too great a shock.

When she has taken her fill of the water, he manages to warn her of the trespass she made against Antares’ wife - though she took it as much to heart as one that had no qualms upsetting the highborn over some small infraction. "Your sister-in-law? So you have all found wives then? In this wasted land, far from Mira and your sworn oaths, you have taken brides?" He laughs at the tsk, but there is little mirth over her jest. He rather liked Sayyida and he rather liked the idea of shocking Zazu with the truth of her even more.

The whole kingdom would know of her flight now, but he wondered if Zazu had been there long enough for the messengers to notify the People. She makes it worse, of course, if Antares took exception to the invasion of his Harem’s oasis - wading in to make a scene splashing and then plunging straight into the water. “Yes... High Prince Antares, Son of Mira, First of Sirius, Crowned of Sekhmet, Beloved of Hathor, Scepter of Ra, Brother of Horus, Bloodwon Lord of the Nile and Wastes did pick well for Amira Sayyida bint Antares, Princess of Mahgri and, Mira of the Eastern Dunes.”

His face as good as painted itself a raised eyebrow, his tone noting the seriousness of his claim and the amusement at her flaunting her disregard of it. “They fled their marriage and Isis and Set, of all things, bound them up in the twine of fate so that they fell in love blind to their identities until the morning after consummated Soul Sewing Marriage.” He does let mirth over the irony shine through his eyes at that, always one for a good story told of a more peaceable Set. The god did have his moments, when not murdering his brother and causing Isis her utter despair.

“But your Lord Antares is the only one who has taken a wife, his own betrothed before you disapprove of your King and Sovereign’s choice for his favored son.” Then, it is as if he forgets that she breaks protocol in bathing in the waters meant for the Mira from Mahgrib. He speaks lower, “Atair has been looking utterly pained of late, though. Qetesh lit a particularly potent fire in a mare who favors him and he does his damndest to abstain for her sake.”

It was not a mystery why to most who had been a part of the Army. Atair was rumored to be good for nothing but war for good reason -- for all that when he let his guard down and hid his starred hide in coal smear, he had been handsome enough and wooed cloyingly enough that he could have begotten plenty of bastard sons to create an army had he less honor and less goodness to shield those women from what the Priestess of Min had accused him of. “But I think that ought to be enough wading in my Sister-In-Laws pool, Zazu. You should have seen Antares when he was cross with Rigel for scaring her… I would rather avoid another peek at my brother’s wilder side.”
