He was wondering when the pretty perlino mare would want his attention again. Cain was never one to push himself on someone for company unless he hadn't seen them in a while and grew worried. Chimeras' scent was all over the desert and he'd seen her firsthand on plenty accounts playing with his son, Carbon, so he knew she was still safe. That was the main thing. If she didn't want his company, then he certainly wasn't going to force it. He would let her come to him, just as he did with Nasa and Cerosi and the other mares who only wanted to be guests in the desert. When Galexia claimed the herd, he was pleasantly surprised to have Cerosi and Chimeras say they wanted to call the desert home. It made him feel warm inside, knowing others saw the beauty in the golden dunes just like he did. He wouldn't trade this place for anything, no matter what the slender arabians and akhal teke horses thought of him.

He was glad the mares of the herd were starting to reach out to each other, though he wished they would gather more often. A united herd was a strong herd. Most of his desert mares seemed scattered and when they did seek company, he found himself as the only listening ear. He didn't mind showing them the attention they deserved but he wanted them to have each other as friends, as well. His sons certainly liked to get out and talk to the mares as well, which he didn't mind. Akello was growing up wise and charismatic. He would make a good lead stallion some day if that was his goal. Cain often wondered how his mission was going on Luthien, if that's indeed where he was. He trusted his son to take care of himself but he was still a concerned father. Akello was two years old now. He was officially an adult and could make his own choices. Carbon wouldn't be far behind him.

When he heard the call from Chimeras, Cain threw his own head back, giving her an answering call so she knew he was on his way. Then he trotted across the sand dunes toward her, his hooves sinking with every stride but he kept pushing forward. The warm spring air was welcome after the cool nights of winter and the desert flowers were in bloom. Struck with inspiration, Cain picked a couple flowers in his teeth and continued on toward the mare, presenting them out to her as he stopped before her. "Hello, Chimeras. How are you holding up?" He knew the change of hands in the desert had an impact on everyone in the herd, not just himself, and he wanted to make sure none of the ones who stayed felt neglected or forgotten in all the chaos.
