Melisma had heard the stallion’s nicker, but she did not give him her attention until he stood a few feet away. Raising her head and turning it towards him, her ears cupped forward as droplets hung from her whiskered lips before falling back into the pool. She was silent as he spoke, her green eyes studying his handsome face. Once he was done, she gave a soft sigh.
“I understand why you did not wish to fight her. She had a noble spirit, but she was too young to hold a title such as yours.” Melisma replied. The stallion would have been too much, and could have really hurt Galexia without meaning too. Cain would have never forgiven himself if he had, despite being justified in protecting his home. “Without a lead mare, someone had too. And it did not seem anyone else was going too.” Melisma had watched as some of the herd scattered due to the disarray, but she had not bothered to follow their lead.
The black mare flicked her ears a bit in her sudden uncertainty, but slowly she took the few steps to close the distance between them and lightly bumped his muzzle with her’s. “I missed you, while I was on the Crossing.” she admitted, her voice a bit hushed due to her shyness. Everything was new to the mare, despite her age, as if she was only a filly coming to realize the world. Being in solitude most of her life had kept her from experiencing such things. “I hope you do not mind, but I do not wish to go back. I’d like to stay in my home.” the mare requested, her soft green eyes looking to him hopefully.
