i'll get under your skin

At the brown mare's next question, Corona offered up a light snort with a shake of her head. "To be honest, I don't think I run with anyone yet. I was invited here by Sayyida and I've only met the brothers one time, briefly." She said with a roll of her shoulders. They had seemed...interesting, for sure. But since she'd come across none of them since her arrival, they'd been pushed further and further to the back of her thoughts. The gray mare tilted her head. "What about you? You run with Maslakhat? He's hard to motivate, that one." She said with a twinkle of mischief in her eyes. The mare hoped she'd left some kind of impression on the bay stallion when she all but challenged him to a race after hinting at him being lazy only to then tease him about thanking her for the run before she dashed off. She was sure she at least gave him a little entertainment for his day. It was shaping up to be quite the boring one, to her eyes.

Shenzi asked where she came from next and Corona scowled thoughtfully as she answered. "I guess you could say the islands beckoned me. An escape is an escape, after all. I swam to the islands from my homeland near the mainland. I grew up in a valley between mountains, a meadow of sorts. My herd was close knit and traditional. I was betrothed to an arrogant fool and didn't want to close the deal....so I ran." She snorted softly, her ears flicking back. She hated thinking back to that controlling bastard who was to be her husband. She was glad she ran. She would have led a miserable life at his side. Her warm gaze swept over the wounded mare, wondering if she should ask about her background as well, but something held her tongue. Not all could talk about their past so openly, not without letting in the dark thoughts that came along with it. So Corona decided not to ask, figuring the mare would bring it up if she wanted to talk about it.

Shenzi agreed that she was lucky to be alive with such wounds, admitting that today was not her time. Corona nodded. "It would seem so." But her next words had the gray mare tensing at the deeper meaning behind them. She'd never been a sympathetic mare, never one to lend a listening ear. She got bored too easily, too restless. When others tried to talk to her, usually she'd end up racing off halfway through the conversation, on to other adventures. Of course, she was younger then and even more flighty, but no less easily distracted. But something about the brown mare had her heart tugging with softer emotions she'd never felt before. Maybe it was the sad tint to her eyes or the weariness with which she held herself sometimes. There was still a fire in the depths of her eyes though, the determination to keep going, and Corona found herself wanting to cheer Shenzi on. She was glad she didn't ask the mare about her past cause something told her it was a harrowing tale. Maybe some day Shenzi would tell her, but it didn't have to be today.

A shiver ran down the mare's spine as she tried to brush the possibilities away from her mind. When she offered to go get the healer, Shenzi said she didn't want to disturb her and Corona snorted. "I doubt she'd mind, but if that's what you wish." The mare said the water helped and Corona scowled, not at all convinced. When she then asked for Corona's company, the gray mare perked up again and smiled. "I guess I could work you into my busy schedule." She said with a teasing smirk. The mare then asked if she'd seen much of the isles and Corona shook her head. "No, I swam to the mainland and Sayyida found me there. I came straight here with her and never wanted to leave. I've never been in a desert landscape and it's like heaven." She looked around, the happiness glowing in her eyes as she took in the golden dunes that skirted her surroundings. She didn't think she'd ever get used to calling it home.

The sound of hoof beats had the gray mare twisting her head to see the golden mare and a colt cresting one of those dunes, heading toward them. She recognized the healer and smiled. Guess she didn't have to go find her, after all. The mare introduced herself as she got closer. "Corona." She answered back, figuring Shenzi would want to introduce herself. The palomino seemed to be all business though, going straight to the brown mare and asking if it was a lion that gave the wounds. As she tended to the barb mare, Corona turned her attention on the dark gray colt at her side. He seemed as restless as she felt most of the time, his tiny tail wagging as as he reached out with his muzzle and gave his name as Gecersiz. Corona smirked and reached down her own muzzle to exchange breaths. "That's a mouthful. Nice to meet you, Gecersiz. I'm Corona." She hoped she'd said the name right. Nudging her head toward the pair in the water, she looked at the colt. "Are you a healer too?" Curiosity gleamed in her eyes.
