My heart has wings

He missed seeing the familiar faces of some of the horses in the Cove, but here he had his sisters to play with. His father was teaching him many valuable things just as his mother had hoped. Siobhan was here to ask questions and guide him just as his mother might. The mare seems to be very fond of the youth, but he always saw the trouble grow on her face of late. He did not understand everything that was happening (or where she had gone back in fall), but she returned with a sour look on her face. His father was greatly wrapped up in this new drama lately so Lorcan took to exploring alone. He was growing older so he assumes that now he could move about the Ridge by himself.

The morning came quickly and the perlino champagne was already up exploring. He nears the border quickly, but suddenly stops when a familiar smell reaches him. Lorcan lowers himself in a sneaking position as he quietly moves among the plants to get a glimpse of this horse. He does not know her name, but he sees the flash of gold and white rush by. She is a mare of Solomon’s. He remembers seeing her among the herd with her young colt born around the same time he had been. Why was she here then? Lorcan is inclined to follow though he stays back to attempt to not alert the mare. He did not wish to fight anyone just yet, but especially not a mare. Father had said you try your best never to fight a lady unless it is deserved.

Shock quickly pours over his face like a waterfall as the event unfolds in front of his eyes. He wanted to scream, but he fights the urge. How painful that must be! Ouch! Lorcan cringles, looks away at times, but finally it was over. A new child lay on the Ridge’s floor as the mother grooms him and speaks in a hushed voice Lorcan can only barely hear. Not that he could understand anything she says, but he waits for the right time to reveal himself. It almost felt like there would never be a good time so he attempts to stay hidden. Perhaps he could just sneak away. The colt takes a step back, quickly resulting in a large snap of the thin twig he just stepped on. ”Oops,” he whispers as his pale ears lay back and wide eyes look forward to the mare and her newborn child.
