Irshi giggled, amused at the stallion’s intrigue.

“This evening, silly,” she quipped as of it were obvious, her voice light and airy with humor. Indeed, the golden girl tended to greet most others under the light of the moon—it was rare that she was roused during the day. The sun always felt too close, very much a prying eye upon her whims and wills. It brought out something of a competitive spirit in her, a quality that Irshi didn’t always display so well. Yet in the shade of the great oak above her, and in the company of the black and white stallion, she felt sheltered enough to chance this meeting.

“Oh, I know that you can,” she continued, confidently. She could see his fate written in the lines of the bark that she tucked around so comfortably, the same way she could see the writing in between the lines of constellations in the night.

“You do so even now, without realizing it. It is in your nature, the same as the oak,” she smiled again. The safety she felt now was proof enough.

She pretended to mull over his next question for a moment instead of immediately responding. Truthfully, she did not have to guess where her soul had been, or where it might go. To be able to see the past, present and future was a gift, and as such, she did not want to chance a misunderstanding, despite how secure she felt in the stallion’s presence. It was still too soon, too new a relationship for her to speak with absolute candor on what she knew in her heart.

Still—she could not lie. It was not in her nature.

“Stardust,” she said simply, her eyes sparkling as if to affirm her answer.
