We found each other in the dark

Through the black starless water,
And the cold lonely air. On the rock restless seas.

For the first time since she left her dam behind, Tavas felt a ping of longing in her gut for her mother. Perhaps she was just lonely. And maybe she felt a brief bit of regret for leaving the mainland after all. Nevertheless, these melancholy feelings did nothing to improve her rapidly deteriorating mood.

The palomino mare ambled on through the meadow nonetheless, her gold-flecked eyes moving from one horse to another, hoping to ignite some semblance of interest in them to stroll over and say hello. It wasn't that Tavas wanted to be 'wooed' today, or that she was desperate to find a home (though, in reality she wouldn't dismiss either of these options), she just wanted a distraction. Anything that would shift her frame of mind onto something other than her failure - and her inability to find solace and confidence in her own decisions.

But the distraction which appeared next was hardly what she had in mind at all.

The golden mare lifted her head from the lush, summer offerings when his familiar warm nicker left his lips. A chill shot down the length of her spine as her eyes fell into his. Solomon. Tavas couldn't hide the stricken look that took over - the muscles under her yellow hide bunched in anticipation. She fretted over the rare risk of this very occurrence - Solomon was the last horse of her former life she wished to see right now. It wasn't that her feelings for him had changed after all this time - in fact, it was the opposite. But she was such a mess - still a mess - and she owed it him to be a bit more put together before seeking him out again.

Solomon, it seemed, only grew more handsome with time. She admired the way his lean, muscular frame glided toward her under the sheen of the summer sun. She quivered almost underneath his intense gaze, waiting anxiously to feel his hot breath against her own skin as he approached. But the painted stallion coolly kept his distance, offering up only a cordial exchange of breath. Tavas smiled stiffly but gladly accepted it, arching her own thin neck to press her muzzle closer to his.

She wondered if he could smell where she'd been... that she had not left him in the night without explanation for a nearby herd or opposing stallion. She knew he had questions. He deserved answers.

Her golden ears pricked forward as he stumbled over his words, but managed to carry on with some polite banter. "It's good to see you too, Solomon." She said softly with a gentle flick of her blonde tail. "That's a complicated question." She said next followed by a short laugh. Tavas shifted her weight back and forth over her four legs as she tried to discern the most manageable way to proceed. "You look... quite well." She fumbled through next. "How is the Cove?"
