2./C cruise June 51 on ALBANY CA123 with that terrible North Atlantic storm then in Coupenhagen Tivoly Gardens, then later Rotterdamn bus trip to Amsterdam then Brussles then back to Rotterdam , Mids were treated royally by the Dutch, tour of Waterloo and tuborg brewery , and back through English Channel to the Atlantic I recall going through Sargasso sea,, much seaweed , As for that storm in N. Atlantic , I had a Watch up inn Sky forward, where ALBANY had severe rolls And I pitied those on destroyers on our flank and they disappeared behind hugh wave crests. On our 1/C cruise to Rio in summer 53 I was on Wisconsin ( I had prayed for a BIG sHIP) from what I saw in the N Atlantic during 2/c cruise. and , had a very black & blue butt for a week or so, I made a very fatal mistake I stopped crawling through that garbage laden canvass chute and it invited hundfredas of hits by harden solid stuffed batons. fortunately i did not get my hair clipped by the Royal Barber, AND kissed a fat oily belly of the Royal baby ( was head shoved into it) yuk. Never was eligible to repeat the ceremony as a shellback. Spent a lot of time using the Great Gray Line USN as a Marine, but never saw another storm like in summer of 51. Replies:
