Meadow

The Meadow proved to be a strange place for Viveka. It is where she'd intended to cross when she first arrived on the Islands. Unfortunately for her, she'd crossed in the Commons where she'd inevitably met Rafe. Then, in her hasty desperation to escape herself, she'd cast forethought aside and flung herself upon its shores and birthed Eigyr. She'd met Romulus in that very moment and since then, things never truly felt like they were level in her world. Each place seemed to hold a piece of her that she'd never get back. Today of all days; her emotions won.

Cassian was now old enough to cross the straight sea to the mainland and Viveka wasted no time gathering the weanling just as the sun started to crest the horizon. The silver black mare's legs slammed into the ocean in haste, Cassian trailing close to her flank. She kept her pace slow so the painted colt could keep his head above water. The seas may be calm, but you never knew what could change without a moment's notice. The thick vegetation soon came into view and she felt her heart thundering in her chest. She didn't know if it was guilt or anticipation that leaked into her veins; Zevulun after all had promised her she wasn't bound to the Prairie. She was free to come and go.

But was this going permanent? Or was she just content to exist?

"Mother, where are we going?" Cassian's little voice squeaked as they pulled themselves from the ocean. Viveka shook the water as best she could from her body. Luckily Summer clung desperately to the Meadow and today would be warm, albeit humid.
