GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
we could be strangers in the night

YOUR LOVE IS ALWAYS DANGEROUS
and now i'm lost in us

For a moment as the sun dipped down under the horizon it cast golden light back on the dark sky, filling it with a dazzling array of colors. Both sunsets and sunrises were beautiful in the Prairie where the land was flat enough to be able to enjoy either, no mountains rising high enough to block out the sight from one end of the island to the other. Oftentimes in winter the sky would be too filled with gray clouds to let the light burst through, but today was one of the rare ones where it was clear enough to let him momentarily enjoy the sight in peace.

Peace, it seemed, was becoming harder and harder to come by these days. The Prairie herd itself was thriving, filled with horses who shared his vision of what he wished for his home to be, but Zevulun did not particularly feel like he was thriving. It was a strange thought, given he had three young foals growing strong and his children from past seasons were maturing as well. He should feel accomplished at having kept Prairie safe all these years, at having kept his family together and well, and in doing everything he could to make up for the guilt from his young adulthood.

Yet, he didn’t.

Zevulun blinked and watched the last few threads of golden sunlight finally disappear from the clouds as the sun dipped too low to cast any more vibrant light. The sky itself was a dull darkness, twilight, with still plenty to see by as he made his way through the territory. The cold ground crunched under his pale hooves; the winter storm that’d blown through the Savanna hadn’t just been kept there, and the Prairie had taken on a larger amount of snowfall that was normal for this early in winter.

As he approached the shoreline, Zevulun noticed a lone figure standing quietly before the waves and paused. He frowned, pink-lined ears tipped forward, but despite never having spoken with her he was able to recognize the mare in front of him. She was one of Viđarr’s mares who’d come to live in the Prairie when Viđarr had decided to leave the Savanna.

He beckoned toward her with a soft nicker, though it was likely she’d heard him approach and already knew he was there.

“Are you alright?” He asked carefully, looking over her and immediately noticing the sorrow across her face. His heart sank, already assuming this must be something to do with Viđarr’s recent disappearance.
