GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
and i can't be the one left here dragging you down

don't wanna wash you away
i swear there's good things that are coming your way

For years now Raziel had chosen to be awake during the evening and sleep during the day. Once he’d made an excuse, saying he liked to remain vigilant for the herd through the late hours of the night, but the truth was it was the easiest way for him to stay alone. It was always what he swore he wanted, despite the constant aches that persisted. In truth, Raziel knew he wanted connection and closeness like his family seemed to have in overabundance, but to him it felt like a foreign concept.

Not to mention there was a sense of unworthiness, too. For all he had done, for all the cruel thoughts he had, Raziel knew he didn’t deserve any kindness the world had for him.

Ramiel, his twin, had been gone from the Prairie for a few seasons now. Once upon a time Raziel had sworn he could not live apart from his twin, but over the years he’d felt them drifting further and further apart. The unthinkable had somehow happened and now he was unsure of everything; the very foundation of his existence had cracked.

The pale stallion paused along an upward swell of a hill, the long green grasses tickling the underside of his white-spotted belly. He glanced toward the mare standing in the moonlight, her figure lithe, her features familiar. She was one of the few in the Prairie he knew, or at least knew the name of.

Sitara.

Raziel wasn’t certain why, but he turned toward her and began to slowly walk her way. He gave her time to bolt or to even kick at him and give him any sign she didn’t want him close. But the nearer he drew, the more he felt a sort of magnetic pull toward her. It was curious; enough so that his blue eyes - icey in color just like his father - draped themselves across her face and wondered why it felt like something in her spoke to something in him with an understanding like he’d never felt before.

Perhaps he was projecting.

Raziel paused still a fair distance from her. Too far even to stretch their necks and properly exchange breaths. He peered at her from beneath the frizzy, thick, long pale forelock that lay across his face.

“Couldn’t sleep? Or are you turning nocturnal too?”
