After leaving a few nasty slurs to the gaping holes in the ground, Vadim moved on. He had better things to be doing with his time than growling profanities at the earth. Or lack thereof. His mission, to flush out the reclusive mares tucked away in the less traveled parts of the territories, was still on his agenda. So, when he finally caught the scent of one, it had his full attention. Not only was it something to entertain himself with, but Vadim also recognized it.
For a moment, the stallion’s mind flashed back to the time he had been a prisoner on Atlantis. The humiliation of it still a festering wound that wouldn’t seem to heal. But, while he had been there, he had crossed a mare’s scent that hadn’t been Enya’s or her daughter’s. So, he had trailed it. Following it through the denser parts of the jungle, and thick green forest, until he had all but lost it among the vines and shrubs. His body too broad to make it through the small path she had made, and had not found the scent again. It appeared, like him, she had fled to the Crossing once the pale Shore Queen had gone.
When the trail grew stronger, Vadim’s excitement also grew, until he was able to spot her just ahead. With the sun shining brightly upon her multicolored hide, she enjoyed a good roll that dulled her colors, and covered her with dirt. Thinking she would notice him (how could she not with his size?), he trapsed over to her, expecting her to get up. Instead, she finished her roll with delight before getting up and giving herself a good shake. Only then did she recognize him, and Vadim couldn’t help the hard frown upon his face at her reaction.
“Didn’t you get enough dirt on Atlantis?” he asked gruffly, but he didn’t really care for her answer. “No, I don’t fancy a roll. But I do fancy something else.” Vadim said before offering her a crooked smile.
