TURNING MEN INTO monsters

The anger in her gaze only grows to his comment, as it should, but not to his admission which only confuses the stallion. As she goes on to talk, Vadim is wrapped up in his befuddlement, as he was so sure of her hate that he didn’t know how to handle it when he was given something else. When the dark girl’s words are quiet, and silence hangs between them, Vadim knows he should say something. But what is there to say to someone that has completely gone against the grain of expectancy? Even as a colt, and the mares had forced themselves to be nice because of his age, he had still seen it in their eyes. The resentment of knowing what he would be when he got older. Only those of the Lagoon, or of his father’s heart, had ever looked at him as anything different.

“Only residence of the Lagoon may know it’s secrets.” the pale stallion said once he had finally found his voice. It was strange, speaking almost plainly now, even if he didn’t give a straight answer. No cutting remark, no deep threatening tone, just….. Vadim. For a brief moment, the monster he was creating himself to be in order to be a thorn in the Boss’ side, receded and the well mannered boy Tyr had raised him to be, tried to life it’s head from the shadows. Vadim hadn’t felt this conflicted since he had first began this journey, and it had happened just by one young mare speaking to him as if he wasn’t a monster. “Is it worth giving up your freedom to find out?”
